September 11th, 2001 – Twenty Years Later

The United States of America was rocked to its core on September 11th, 2001. Twenty years later, we remember how we felt that day. For the anniversary of that day, we hope to remember those who lost their lives by honoring the men and women who serve to protect us and keep us safe every day.
The Wetzel-Tyler Chamber of Commerce, with the aid and support of the Tyler and Wetzel Commissions, the City of New Martinsville, St Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, Blue Racer Mid-Stream, a cadre of local volunteers, and with the help of small businesses around both counties, plans to deliver a meal to every police officer, firefighter, EMP, paramedic, doctor, nurse, and other first responders in our community who put themselves on the line to help us.
The day will begin at 8 AM where volunteers will be packing the meal for other volunteers to carry around the county. This will take place at Stalder’s Family Creamery on Main St in New Martinsville. Meals will be assembled with food prepared by Stalder Family Creamery, Jenkins Sub Express, Galaxy Food Center in Middlebourne & Coal Miner’s Daughter Bakery.
Volunteers will carry these meals to firehouses, police stations and barracks, hospitals, and Dispatchers all over Tyler & Wetzel Counties as well as those along the riverfront in Ohio’s Monroe county. Meals will include a pulled pork sandwich and sides with bottled water and a token for each first responder expressing our appreciation for what they do for us.
The City of New Martinsville will be holding a parade on Main St at 6 PM on the evening of September 11th. Following the parade, there will be a ceremony in Fireman’s Park at 7:30 PM which will be themed as, “9/11 20th Anniversary Salute to Our First Responders”
